Ranchos de Taos

San Francisco de Assisi Mission church is located in Ranchos de Taos, Nm. The adobe spanish and native architectural style church was completed in 1816. This beloved church was depicted by  photographers and painters such as Ansel Adams, Paul Strand and Georgia O'keeffe. It is still one of the most highly photographed and painted buildings in the United States to this day.

This wonderful chapel painting loosely borrows elements from one of my favorite little chapels, Canoncito outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Lots of texture in this darling piece. This painting has a home with two of my favorite people, Sally and Ken.  Thank you!

I'm not quite sure where the inspiration for this piece came from.  It is a fun little piece with some great texture.  And, the pthalo blue and cad red accents really make it pop!

A Place of My Own

A Place of My Own
6 x 6 x 3/4"
oil on cradled board

SOLD

I imagined this little mission about ten years ago and have painted several versions of it over the years. I have been told it resembles a church in New Mexico. I have not seen it yet, but hope to someday stumble upon it during one of my jaunts to the Taos area. I have just returned from a trip to Santa Fe and Taos where I met some truly amazing artists, viewed wonderful architecture and gazed upon spectacular landscapes. I am returning even more inspired and ready to paint!

Along theHigh Road to Taos

Along the High Road to Taos
8 x 8 x 3/4 inches

SOLD

Along the high road to Taos lies the village of Truchas New Mexico. This charming hispanic settlement was founded in 1754. The chapel, Nuestra SeƱora Del Segrado Rosario is dedicated to Our lady of the Rosary. Truchas is also the location of Robert Redford's 1988 filming of The Milagro Beanfield War. I love this movie!

I painted this little church after I came across a wonderful photograph of a similar building.  After doing some research, I discovered the church resides in Florida. Well, I've added snow capped peaks... :)
