Moonlight on San Miguel

"Moonlight on San Miguel"
14 x 11 x 1.5"
oil on linen

San Miguel Church located in Santa Fe, New Mexico is said to be the oldest church in the United States, at about 400 years old. The Spanish Colonial Mission structure rebuilt in 1710, after damage in 1680 due to a Pueblo revolt, was originally built between 1610 and 1626. The original church is believed to have been built by the Tlaxcalan Indians of Old Mexico who arrived with a Spanish contingent led by Don Juan Onate in 1598.

"Cielos Tranquilos"

The San Lorenzo de Picuris mission is part of the Picuris Pueblo in Taos County, New Mexico. Made of adobe, the structure was built in 1776. The church is dedicated to Saint Lawrence, the patron saint of Picuris. The pueblo people are Tiwa. The name Pickuria means "those who paint". The pueblo is known for it's arts and crafts especially the micaceous pottery produced there.

"Iglesia Blanca"

Bobby Lee Krajnik
"Iglesia Blanca"
12 x 12 x 1.5"
oil on board

I found a sectional image of the San Geronimo Chapel in Taos, New Mexico, and just found the angles beautiful. San Geronimo chapel is part of the Taos Pueblo and of the Tiwa speaking tribe of Pueblo people. The adobe church was built in 1850 but the Pueblo itself is approximately 1,000 years old and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the United States.
